The Athlos Polo: our take on the understated elegance and timeless style of a polo. Old school classy yet athletic in true Athlos style, we designed the Polo with a super soft Supima Cotton blend. The Athlos polo handles it all: from spontaneous outdoor adventures to the weights room, and from an evening with friends to the office.
Featuring a technical knit with a smooth hand-feel, the polo graduates with successive wears to natural softness. We started with premium Supima knit, and blended it with quick-drying polyester to up the drying rate. A textured fabric with perforations to enhance airflow, the pique knit keeps the polo breathable, while the anti-odour finish keeps the sweat odour at bay. What gives is a polo that stays fresh! For hours!
We took the classic polo and added our own twist with assertive sleeves, a concealed 4 button placket, and a streamlined cut. The result is a polo that pairs and performs well in the city as it does on the gym floor.
While we aren't sure of its exact origin, the roots of the polo shirt can be traced to birthplace of Polo: Manipur, India. The traditional polo uniform during this time featured long-sleeve cotton shirts, and to avoid the collars flapping during the game, the players attached buttons to secure them in place. These button downed collar shirts worn by the polo players served as the inspiration for " original polo shirt" designed by Manhattan based brooks brothers in 1896.
In the early 1900's a certain French tennis legend Jean Rene "Lacoste" modified the original polo shirt to short sleeves and cotton pique fabric to inspire the modern day Lacoste polo. Given its roots linked to India, it was only befitting that we give our shot at re-designing the classic polo. And we couldn't be more kicked about it.
